Fair Haven is a town with a reputation true to its name. Set on the charming Rumson Peninsula, the borough is a quiet refuge from the hustle of Route 35 and the Garden State Parkway, yet downtown Red Bank or the beach are both less than 10 minutes away. The borough offers the basics (supermarket, gas station, hardware store), the perks (coffee shop, hot yoga, animal hospital, notable restaurants), and the luxuries (spa, yacht club). This small-town America feel attracts a steady flow of those who choose to make Fair Haven their home, while favorite traditions are embraced year after year. The annual fireman’s fair is the largest in the state and the town children are encouraged to bike to school. On “Transition Day,” graduating third-graders bike together to their new school while the community cheers them along. Nostalgia aside, the borough has a good grasp of modern realities. The real estate market is competitive, and 2014 marks the first time in six years that Fair Haven has approved a municipal budget that raises property taxes. Fair Haven is ranked 22 in NJ Monthly’s “Top Towns” list, and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (a Blue Ribbon School) is the best in Monmouth County. Signs and art displaying the saying “My Fair Haven” can be found in residences throughout town, a common sentiment amongst its proud homeowners.
